Taurus’ Jessie Duff Captures 2013 Steel Challenge

Miami, FL – Taurus®, the global leader in revolver manufacturing, congratulates pro-shooter Jessie Duff on her recent wins in both the Ladies’ Limited and Open divisions at the 2013 Steel Challenge World Championships in Frostproof, Florida.

The Steel Challenge (World Speed Shooting Championships) has become one of the most prestigious titles to earn, whereas it’s champions are crowned the fastest shooters in the world! This year Jessie claimed the Ladies Open and Limited, along with the coveted Ladies Steel Master title, and also set the new Ladies World Record with a 92.72!

Jessie competed with her Taurus 1911 single stack 9mm in the Limited division this year, winning the Ladies’ Limited title. Jessie shares her thoughts, “Overall for the limited match, I was happy with how well I shot. I was off my normal pace in the first half of the course, so just went back to the basics and watched my front sight. The last four stages, I felt much more at ease with my shooting. My overall time was within three seconds of my personal best, and was enough to win Ladies Limited.”

Open division is considered the “Race” division of the match. The times are always considerably faster, due to the optics on the guns. The competition is very strong and this year was no exception. This year it was a race all the way to the end! Both Jessie and fellow competitor, Kaci Cochran, started strong right out of the gate. Jessie’s goal for this match was to beat her personal best score, which she set as the Ladies World Record in 2009 a time of 94.94. Each stage shot was a battle against her competitor, with the lead swapping back and forth constantly. In the end, each shooter finished with four out of eight stage wins, and Jessie claiming her sixth Open title!

“When I started training for this match, I set high goals for myself, but knew that I was capable of beating my 2009 record,” comments Duff. “At the end of the match, I was overwhelmed to find out that I achieved my goal, and set a new Ladies World Record with a 92.72! Winning the Open championship and setting a new record is such a huge milestone in my career, and I couldn’t be more proud to have had such a performance with my Taurus 1911, while sharing it with the Taurus family.”
